This set from the calendar features 2 newcomers, Natalie and Raissa...these girls were such a blast and were great sports about climbing on all the playground equipment in the rain, and in heels!

The third set for the 2010 swimsuit calendar featured an old face Ana, and a newcomer Ingrid, a.k.a. Lady Longlegs...This shoot also marked the first set with Ninfa as the hairstylist/make-up artist...

We shot these photos in the dark (at night), in the rain at a cemetary...not my favorite situation to be in LOL but considering the circumstances I think we did pretty well :)

Samantha is an old childhood friend/friend of the family that I hadn't seen in about a decade, so imagine our surprise when we show up to shoot and see each other! It made the shoot all the more fun, for sure. We got together to work on a series that I'm starting simply called "Dancers" where people trained in different dance styles basically show me what they've got, but in a setting that they might not be used to performing in. For Samantha's shoot, we stayed on that same shady corner that we shot Caroll's photos in earlier that day, seeing as the graffiti-ed wall was Samantha's idea.

The shoot was cut short because of the rain, but the 15-20 minutes we shot produced some of the most beautiful photos I have ever shot, in my opinion...

These photos were taken on the shadiest corner of Downtown I have ever had the privilege of standing on LOL But I am very happy with this images of Caroll, one of which was published in Estilo magazine in Honduras. The photo is in the October issue, so I am currently waiting for the magazine to reach the US so I can scan the tearsheet :)

ok, so I've been VERY disappeared, but I am have good reason! The logistics of putting together this year's calendar have been CRAZY! It seems the more time I gave myself to plan for unfortunate circumstances, the more unfortunate circumstances I've run into...

But I digress...

These photos were taken the same day as the Lissett and Yvette shoot. They were taken at a rock festival at Optimist Park in Miami Lakes, and they feature a band called IMAIM. I'm not much into thrash, but these guys kick ass!

This model is a real pro and absolutely beautiful! but due to the nature of the shoot, she wished to remain anonymous. I hope to work with her again very soon in a setting where we can totally show her off!

This shoot was for my "Confessions"series, the first one I ever attempted, which I decided to revive. This model's theme is fear of commitment, manifested in her phrase "Once I have it, I don't want it."

Cristiana and Jorge have been together for about as long as my husband and I have, and they are finally getting married this September! So we all went out to get some engagement photos for them to use for their invitations...

I'll also be shooting their wedding in the fall, and I'm very much looking forward to it! <3>

This session was the first of twelve that I am going to be shooting throughout the year for the Beautiful Garbage Photography 2010 Swimsuit Calendar. I'm trying to give a fashion twist to regular swimsuit modeling, because it is so easy to be cliche and overly sexy in swimwear...so the whole calendar is going to be of women paired up modeling their suits in a sexy, classy way in found spaces where one wouldn't expect to find women in swimsuits...

The first girls that shot for this concept were Caroll, a Beautiful Garbage newcomer, and Alejandra, whom I shot in March for the Eyes concept.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the set, though like last year's calendar, the absolute BEST photo from the shoot will only be available for viewing in the actual calendar (not even the models will see the best photo until the calendar is released) so this is just a preview of what's to come...

We finally got around to starting on Audio Video Disco's album art last month...We did a studio shoot were we got some individual shots of each girl, including a new addition to the band, Josie...next month we will be working on the group shots, and then we'll be ready to put the CD cover together! super exciting!!!

This was basically an impromtu shoot that Kary and I decided to do in the middle of the night...I'd never done an outdoor shoot at night, but I am very pleasantly surprised by the images.

I had such a good time shooting Maylin for the "Eyes" series, that we decided to shoot again just a couple of weeks later...These shots were meant to enhance Maylin's portfolio, and so she took the reins as far as hair, wardrobe and location...

We got some really interesting photos, and Maylin, a self-proclaimed klutz (I can totally relate!) even decided to climb some trees for the sake of a shot! It's always exciting to shoot someone that is as gung-ho about getting a great photo as you are! I'm sure this won't be the last you see of Maylin in front of my camera!

"Eyes are the Windows to the Soul" concept - March 2009...

In March, I started a new concept, basically asking people to draw, paint and collage something that says something about them...and make it so that it's a "window" through their eyes, hence peeking through their eyes into their soul...

I had six shoots related to this concept throughout the month, mostly with people I'd never worked with before...I'm very pleased with how the concept is going so far, and I have about 30 other people that have shown interest and are pending scheduling...

Our Team: "Jesse's Girls"...and boys, I guess. LOL

This past weekend was the annual Walk Now for Autism event. I had never participated in this event before, though Autism is a cause near to my heart, and I had been training to work with children with Autism when I was in college.

Christie orchestrated our participation in the event, as we were walking for Jesse, one of her students (Christie is an ESE teacher).

I wasn't hired to take photos for this event, hell, I didn't even bring any of my big cameras LOL just my little point and shoot, but I wanted to post about the event anyways because not only was it a lot of fun, it was for an amazing cause, and I want to let you all know that this is definitely something that Beautiful Garbage Photography is going to be a part of for the long haul!

First off, HISTORY WILL BE MADE TODAY! GOBAMA!!!

Secondly, hi! LOL

This past weekend, my BFF Kary (you remember, the pro hairstylist/MAC make-up artist) joined forces with me to photograph a gaggle of girls (five in total, three of which I had never worked with before) to benefit both our portfolios...

What resulted was a hectic, fun, crazy 11 hour shoot, and almost 1000 amazing images!!!

The first shoot of the day was a newbie, Christie...Kary did a crazy duochrome look that I called "the storm" LOL Christie came out beautiful, and the make-up was amazing!

My next victim was Jennicke...We had her shoot outdoors, which was a bit challenging because by the time she was out of hair and make-up, the light was fading fast...We got a few great shots, but I was a bit upset to find that some of my favorite shots came out irreparably blurry due to the darkness. No worries, we've already made plans to reshoot =)

After Jennicke's shoot, I started with Lynn, who you might remember from the Beautiful Garbage Photography calendar. She had several outfit changes, and was definitely one of the more animated girls in the bunch. Everytime I'd "ooh and ahh!" over a shot, she'd stop the shoot to see for herself, whether it was her shoot or not LOL But her energy and enthusiasm are always appreciated!

The fourth girl of the day (at this point night LOL) was Ana, who I've known since I was 10, but had never shot before...She has a fantastic face for beauty, and the talent to pull off high fashion...absolutely a treat to shoot! She also had several outfit changes, always exciting to shoot a model that contributes! Each of her looks was radically different, but I picked this photo to showcase because it reminds me of a CoverGirl ad. =)

The last shoot of the night featured Jessie, the lead singer of Audio Video Disco, who was an absolute delight to shoot! almost 300 frames, and not a bad shot among them! Jessie is beautiful, and very charismatic. She had a lot of ideas, was very natural and was game for anything, going as far as temporarily blinding herself for the sake of a shot. I really hope to work with her again!

GREAT SHOOT, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO FINISH EDITING SO I CAN SHOW THEM ALL OFF!!!

I had SUCH a hard time keeping this one under wraps for so long, but the photos were meant to be a Christmas present, and the client went out of town til New Years, so I couldn't unveil the photos for risk of ruining the surprise!!!

Nicole found me through Anisey, a mutual friend that I've worked with a couple of times, and asked me to take these photos of her as a gift for her boyfriend...and what a small world, her boyfriend is a guy that was in my tightest circle of friends in high school!

I love how these came out, and I hope the recipient liked them as well! ;D

This shoot was the last for the calendar...and it was great success! (to quote Borat...lol)

Remin, or Min as she prefers to be called, is a friend of Melissa and Vicky's that I was very excited to work with, as she has shot with pro photographers before and is trying to break into the world of modeling...

She represented Virgo for the month of September, and we had such a good time on the shoot that even after we got the shot for the calendar, we decided to keep shooting just for fun!

we finished off the weekend with another shoot at one of my favorite parks...Natalia was a real trooper, as we needed her to get in the water for the shot and it was about 60 degrees out (it doesn't sound too bad, but we're Miami-ans, people! 60 degrees is damn near freezing! lol)

Natalia is a Pisces, and so she is being featured on the March page of the calendar...

this was another one of those shoots that we had to do in a hurry (from beginning to end, it lasted 12 minutes) because it was so close to sunset and the light was rapidly diminishing, but the lighting was beautiful, and like I told Natalia, I didn't see a bad picture in the set...Natalia deserves a medal! lol

the third shoot of the day was featuring a Beautiful Garbage favorite...Vicki! playing herself (Leo lol) for the August page of the calendar...

we were able to shoot at my "studio" for her set-up, which was great...as usual, as soon as we started shooting the magic started happening (lol) and we got SEVERAL amazing shots!!! the camera loves "goddess" Vicki! ;D

yep, that's a leo symbol tattoo...how perfect is that? lol

the second shoot of the day started an hour and a half later than scheduled, so we were kind of rushed, and the light was pretty harsh, but I think we did alright all things considered... ;D

we had to deal with ducks and iguanas (mean ones! lol) but we got the shot pretty quickly...

Michelle is a actually a Libra, but for the calendar she is representing Aquarius (the water-bearer, hence the fountain) for the month of February...

three shoots in a day! I don't think I'd done it before, unless you count once back in March that was all in the same location...hectic! and eventful! lol

The first shoot of the weekend was with Anisey in the Gables...she is an actual Libra, so she is representing October in my calendar...

I wanted to have her pose on the columns, because I wanted a sophisticated feel for her photo...Anisey was awesome, she climbed right up on the tallest pillar and got to work...she even put together her own toga, which was a welcome change for me! lol

probably the coolest little factoid about this shoot...it was raining before we started, and it stopped just long enough for me to get my shot...literally three minutes!!! I was able to get all these amazing shots in 3 MINUTES!!! Anisey is awesome! lol

The last shoot of the weekend featured a Beautiful Garbage newcomer, Melissa M., channeling her inner diva to represent Aries for April...props to her, cuz she's actually a Virgo!

I spent a good half hour on Melissa's garment, and I'm actually quite impressed at how it turned out! If only I had that much time for ALL of the girls...Her garment actually looked like an outfit to me, albeit haphazardly put together, but I loved my idea for the pattern! ok, I'll stop gushing about the "dress" now lol

We went to shoot at a warehouse in Meli's neighborhood, and Kenny very excitedly lent us his car for the shoot ("My car is gonna be published? and with a chick? SCORE!" LOL)...I wanted the colors to really POP, and I think we were able to achieve that...

For such an eventful shoot, the actual photographing for this session was ironically very "quick and painless" as we put it lol

We had to change location for the shoot three times in a matter of 20 minutes, after being chased out of places by cops, a co-ed beatdown that we feared would end in a shootout, and people robbing the sleeping homeless...incredible!

We ended up back in the original location, and got 100 shots in a matter of 10 minutes...the scenery, lighting and model were beautiful, and everything just clicked, pun intended.

Jennie is a Beautiful Garbage favorite, and she is opening up the calendar being featured on the January page, representing Capricorn.

I edited these photos myself, along with the 2 in the NEXT post, though Kenny edited all of the other photos in both sets (hey, I got impatient! I was excited to post so I had to take matters into my own hands! lol)

The second shoot of the day starred Jennicke as herself, a.k.a. Scorpio.

We went down to the beach (where a wedding was going on, yay!) and proceeded to have way more fun than pros should...the music was very distracting! lol

I styled Jennicke in kind of like a toga, a little more "womanly" than the past two shoots, where I was going for more of a found nymph feel...And as a side note which I don't think I'd mentioned before, each of the models is wearing a color that pertains to the zodiac sign they are meant to be representing.

This was the first (and so far only) set of photos that I 100% edited on my own from start to finish...

I started out this weekend of FOUR shoots with Vanessa O....We'd been trying to schedule a shoot all year, and we finally were able to get together on Saturday and shoot for the calendar...

Vanessa O. is actually a Virgo, but for the calendar she represented Taurus, and she will be featured in May in the calendar.

Kenny has been teaching me how to work the programs as well, and I actually helped edit these...=)

(DISCLAIMER: in the interest of keeping the calendar interesting and fresh, ANY picture I post from calendar shoots ANYWHERE is simply a "preview"...I am not AT ALL posting the actual photos to be used in the calendar, which I believe to be the best shot from any given set, or any photo that even slightly resembles it...so if you wanna see the best of the best from these shoots, the calendar is the only place to see it!)

I recently shot the first set in the series of photos that will make up the first ever (and hopefully annual) Beautiful Garbage Photography calendar, just in time for 2009...if all goes to plan (and it damn well better! lol) I should have the first copy in my hand before December, and won't that be grand?

The wardrobe was created on the spot by me, BTW...lol my first attempt at styling and I have to say I was expecting worse, but it turned out alright if I do say so myself...

A photo from this set (not one that's posted, BUA HA HA! it shall be a SURPRISE!!!) shall be featured in the 2009 Beautiful Garbage Photography calendar, which I am INCREDIBLY happy to announce already has some buzz going and has some people waiting excitedly to buy! YAY!

in the next couple weeks, we'll have the shoots completed, and the calendars should be available by early December (holiday gifts, anyone? LOL who wouldn't want something that affords them the ability to look at beautiful women all year? and even if you're not into beautiful women, I'm sure you appreciate beautiful photos, or you wouldn't be reading this!)

The calendars will be available for $25...and be horoscope inspired, i.e. the first set featuring Lynn (a Beautiful Garbage newcomer) as Sagittarius...The calendar will feature some new faces, as well as SEVERAL of your favorites, including Vicki and Jennie!

I'm very excited about this new venture, and hope to hear your thoughts, both on the idea and the photos themselves...

Thelma and John's Wedding 10-4-08

WOW!!!

so, I have just shot my first wedding as a professional.

Insanity.

First off, I gotta say, I haven't been to a wedding besides my own since I was nine, and I don't think I'd ever been to a Catholic ceremony, so I figured the day would be hectic, but I didn't consider it would be CHAOTIC with the only break being the hour and a half long ceremony, which was basically a lecture on contraceptives, abortions, and what slim chances the couple had of making their marriage work, sprinkled with a bit of "do you? do you? ok, give her the ring."

Not for nothing, Catholics, after all I used to be one, but why do ya gotta zap the fun outta everything? lol

I wasn't able to get all the shots I had planned (or had hoped) to get due to the rain and the time crunch mostly, but I did get SO MANY shots that editing them is a little overwhelming to both Kenny and I...I was up til 5:30 AM just organizing the photos based on timeline (since I used two different camera bodies, the photos were separated on two cards in no particular order).

I did have an AMAZING time considering I was "working" (I feel bad calling it work when it's such a blast), and I feel confident that with this wedding under my belt, the next one should be even MORE of a success!

I do have to say, it's two days later...and my back and feet are STILL sore! wow! something to be corrected before next time...MUST GET INSOLES or something! lol

Overall, I'm just very excited and thankful that I got this opportunity (thanks again to Elizabeth Stinson for taking a chance on a rookie and giving me this amazing chance) and I look forward to many more weddings!!!

The Wallflower Gallery had their 3rd annual GLBT event September 20th, and my favorite all girl, all lesbian band (lol not too many of those around, I know, but these girls ROCK!!!) Audio Video Disco closed off the event with a fantastic (as always) set...gotta love these girls!

I created a whole album on my myspace which I shall be filling with photos little by little, as I surely shall be photographing the band more in the near future =D They are currently recording their first EP and they have commissioned me to do the photography for their album art. ME! WITH MY WORK ON A CD! yay!

Melissa and Victoria's actors' headshots 9-7-08

so, I had never worked with actresses before, I'm used to either working with aspiring models or people who have never been in front of a camera at all, so I really didn't know what to expect from these girls...

I am happy to report that both Melissa and Vicky were great sports with all the crazy scenarios I kept throwing at them to get different facial expressions, and were both beautiful and super charismatic. these girls are going to go far!!!

Make-up for this shoot was again provided by Kary-Anne, and the ladies did their own hair and wardrobe. I was very impressed and happy when the girls told me they had actually done their homework as far as the best poses for what they needed and also what colors and wardrobe would work best for them, etc. If all my models were so professional! :sigh: lol

anyways, the editing was provided once again by my husband Kenny, who's getting better and better with every shoot.

This is the first shoot in another series I'm working on specifically for a gallery exhibit I am working on...the series is called "Creative Expressions", and in a nutshell, the concept is people expressing themselves creatively...painting, dancing, cooking, playing instruments...only naked. nothing distracting from them doing what they love, just the person and their art...

Anisey, an old co-worker of mine, volunteered for the series, having been a cellist since childhood...and being a brave enough soul to strip in front of a random person and in front of a camera knowing the world would see her so vulnerable...

I think the photos came out beautiful, and I was able to work out a lot of the kinks from the first studio set-up...

my first "studio" shoot...using my $60 light kit from eBay and a sheet set that I SHOULD have taken out of it's packaging more than 1 hour before the shoot, but hey...growing pains, right? lol

this was SUPPOSED to be a pin-up shoot, but because it was for Jennie's portfolio, I didn't argue when she showed up with three less than pin-up-y outfits to shoot in...I think they came out pretty good though, considering the circumstances...and she LOVED them, which is the most important thing!

actually, these photos have started me branching in a whole new VERY PAID area in my photography career, so I guess really THAT'S the most important thing ;)

Sakura and I had no idea really what we were going to do for this shoot lol only that we were given the opportunity to shoot at the historic Hialeah Park, which is a historical landmark...you have to pull a lot of strings to be able to set foot there, let alone photograph there!

This was my first official shoot as "Beautiful Garbage Photography"...before I had been going by "Photography by Desiree..."

She showed up in costume and we just let the surroundings guide the shoot...Sakura was 15 weeks pregnant here, and I think her face has a nice little glow to it! lol

Elias is only the second male I've ever shot, and he happens to be Jennie's little brother...you can tell from the photos that this family has some very photogenic genes! lol Elias is also aspiring to model, so we shot these for his portfolio...(no make-up here either! lol)

i met Carol on a modeling website, and she was interested in adding to her portfolio, so we agreed to meet up for a shoot...it was kind of nerve-wracking meeting someone new and having a shoot with them knowing they were experienced models that were possibly expecting more than I could give, but we had a great time and Carol really loved her shots!!!

Natalia was my last photoshoot of the weekend and my first guinea pig in a series I had thought up that really is just known as "gowns"...sorry for the lack of pizzazz lol basically, I just wanted to photograph girls in dresses that make them feel fabulous, and I was hoping to get some fashion/editorial posing in there as well...

The shoot took place at El Prado at the Gables, and I must say I am in love with A LOT of photos from this set!

as mentioned in the previous posts, Larry's was one of four shoots that took place over the span of a weekend, which I must say was very hectic but also a LOT of fun...

I'm pretty sure Larry just wanted hot new pix for his myspace (lol) and I was more than happy to oblige! Jennicke was on hand as my "assistant", though she mostly just sat with my extra camera and lenses to make sure no one stole them ;)

Larry is not wearing any make-up, BTW lol

Kimmie is Laura's cousin (you remember Laura, right? from a few posts back? lol) She kicked off the month of May, which started with 4 shoots in three days! Kimmie's took place on a Friday, then I had Larry Saturday morning and Michelle Saturday afternoon before winding down the weekend with Natalia on Sunday...

Kimmie was another one of my victim's for the exotic make-up series, hence another one that I made up (let's just say for all purposes that unless otherwise mentioned, I did the make-up for EVERY shoot, just because it's easier to take that fact for granted than to have to mention it in every post lol). Kimmie's make-up was actually inspired by the charms on her necklace and her love of rainbows in general...

her boyfriend Chris and cousin Laura were present for the shoot, and although Chris was adamant about not being in ANY photos, I managed to catch him in a couple...

this was shot at the new Business building at FIU University Park campus...

i HATE that window or whatever that is in the background, but this picture was completely a matter of me catching a moment and was in no way posed, so I didn't want to even bother moving them and asking them to re-enact it for fear that the new image wouldn't have the same emotion...

this shoot was actually inspired by a photo the twins already had on their myspaces, of them in indian inspired body paint...I had each of the girls paint each other, which is why the painting doesn't match..I just wanted the photos to be an expression of the girls, both individually and together...

the lighting was a bit of a challenge here, but overall I got the feeling I wanted from the photos, and this shoot turned out one of my favorite photos ever!!!

there were SEVERAL clothes and make-up changes to this shoot...location changes as well...it was hectic, but very fun!

My first shoot in April was with a childhood fried of mine who I hadn't seen in YEARS, Jennifer...She is an aspiring model/actress, and wanted help with her portfolio, so there I was!

I did the make-up for this shoot as well...this was my first shoot involving costume changes lol the indian costume was pretty exotic, I must say...this shoot also taught me that a model tanning before a photoshoot is a bad idea! lol i had to throw away a whole roll of film because Jennie's bikini lines were more of a focus than her lovely face!!!

this was shot at FIU University Park campus, in the Education building, and it turned out some of my favorite photos to date...

For my last shoot in March, I had a session with my buddy Laura from FIU...we'd had a few classes together, but otherwise we'd had kinda limited communication...I guess she liked the results of the shoot, because she referred me her cousin just a couple months later!

for the next shoot (3/16/08), I was scheduled to photograph Lindsey, an old co-worker of mine, for both the exotic make-up and confessions series. My best friend Kary-Anne, who is a trained make-up artist and a professional hairstylist, agreed to come along on the shoot...when we arrived, not only did we find Lindsey ready for her close-up, but also her best friend Irene and her little sister Kim!

the make-up and hair took FOREVER (that's just kary's style though lol) and you can tell from the photos that the models didn't have TOO much experience posing and I didn't have TOO much experience directing yet, but overall we had a lot of fun, and that's always the most important thing...

This was my second shoot, which was meant to be an "exotic" make-up shoot, but with Vicki's green eyes, I decided to just go subtle with some red and purple eyeshadow to bring out the color...

this is the first of MOST of my shoots where I did the make-up in addition to photographing the models...

we shot this at FIU University Park campus, specifically in the VH and Architecture buildings.

this was my first ever "photoshoot" as you can surely tell by the quality of the photos lol Sakura volunteered to be a part of my first series of photos (that actually launched the whole "me photographing people" thing) which I called "Confessions"...basically people just writing their secrets, dreams, etc. on themselves and letting me photograph them. my original idea was that the people's faces would not be showing, though for almost every photo from this series that is not the case =)

Sakura got pregnant around this time, give or take a week, and I'd like to think this shoot might have had something to do with the conception ;) seeing as her boyfriend Andrew was sitting in on the shoot the whole time! lol

so, I have been taking photos "professionally" (and I say that very loosely, meaning "while getting paid or with the purpose of getting paid") since February 2008, but this blog has only existed since August 2008, so I am going to dedicate an entry to each of the photo shoots I have had, until I am up to date =)

big things have happened for my photography as a business in these short 6 months, and I hope to show the journey through this blog.
